Walking down the street, knocking on every car window, melancholically smiling at the commuters, expecting them to give her some money to survive through the day… but in return, she also know, she would be facing difficult situation aswell. Maybe she was so use to them, that now, it has now stopped bothering her!!
On a lazy Sunday afternoon, on my way to meet few friends, I witnessed the most appalling incident at Chirag Delhi red light. A girl (should be around 12 yrs of age) was trying to earn to feed herself, by begging. Amidst the traffic, waiting to zip off, the minute the traffic light turns green, a sleek car, with ‘apparently’ decent people become a part of the waiting. She walk to them and in her practiced melancholic tone, begs for some money… In return, one of the men, waves out to her from the other side of the car, with a Rs.100 note in his hand. The girl gets excited and rushes towards him, is when she is faced with yet another incident in her life. The man prepares himself to pull the girl inside the car, as soon as she reaches the spot. Anticipating the situation, the girl chooses to stay at a comfortable distance from the door, yet ensure, she gets the money. Least she knew, the man was far stronger than her and was well prepared for resistance. The minute she reaches to the door, he tries his best to pull her in the car.
That’s when, one of the men from the other car raises an alarm! And the others choose to ignore the situation. The girl is left free and is also deprived of the money. Teary eyed, she continues to beg…
The whole incident really made me wonder, if men in the city are so petty?

Shobha De's comment - 'Men in Delhi rape you with their eyes', jsut showcases how men in city treat their counterparts. Everyone knows that Delhi is not the safest place a girl would like to be in.
But my question to you is, did you do your bit for Delhi to make it a better place to live. About the incident that you posted, did YOU so anything about it? Or you too were a meek viewer to the enitre drama. Did you note down the license no. plate of the car...did you try to report the incident. Did you even get down and try to pacify that poor child who just encountered that horrendous accident.
Well...point made. We all are getting numb to everything. Till the time it happens to you, you do not realise the quantum of aftereffects of everything. We need to get out of this phase of numbness. Any suggestion?
Ok! i had taken down the car number... apart from giving to the cops, i have even spoken to a journalist about the same... hoping to get the same addressed!
Brave...very brave.
Anything to do with cops in Delhi send a chill down the spine of many. Getting an FIR lodged for the same must have not been easy.
Hats off to you...
it surely wasnt...
sad but true.... I have heard about such incidents elsewhere as well. I have nothing against Delhi but the mere audacity with which some men there commit such heinous acts makes me wonder what kind of minds they possess. And to top it , they get away with doing all this thanks to political clout.
Well done Ranjini to atleast note down the number and inform. I think thats the best one can do as an immediate thing.
Thank You Bharadwaj!!! But, i think, we need to help them... by atleast motivating others to raise their voice against such thing
its alright Ranjini...
yes ... no doubt about it......that we need to do whatever we can about such incidents and issues...
I saw a similar incident a year ago and from my end tried to inform the police and get in touch with any journalist to report it.. but sadly could not ... but I felt a touch satisfied that I tried to do something...
