Walking down the street, knocking on every car window, melancholically smiling at the commuters, expecting them to give her some money to survive through the day… but in return, she also know, she would be facing difficult situation aswell. Maybe she was so use to them, that now, it has now stopped bothering her!!
On a lazy Sunday afternoon, on my way to meet few friends, I witnessed the most appalling incident at Chirag Delhi red light. A girl (should be around 12 yrs of age) was trying to earn to feed herself, by begging. Amidst the traffic, waiting to zip off, the minute the traffic light turns green, a sleek car, with ‘apparently’ decent people become a part of the waiting. She walk to them and in her practiced melancholic tone, begs for some money… In return, one of the men, waves out to her from the other side of the car, with a Rs.100 note in his hand. The girl gets excited and rushes towards him, is when she is faced with yet another incident in her life. The man prepares himself to pull the girl inside the car, as soon as she reaches the spot. Anticipating the situation, the girl chooses to stay at a comfortable distance from the door, yet ensure, she gets the money. Least she knew, the man was far stronger than her and was well prepared for resistance. The minute she reaches to the door, he tries his best to pull her in the car.
That’s when, one of the men from the other car raises an alarm! And the others choose to ignore the situation. The girl is left free and is also deprived of the money. Teary eyed, she continues to beg…
The whole incident really made me wonder, if men in the city are so petty?
